Alma Hybrid CO2 Laser

Ultimate Skin Rejuvenation

At ReZen MedSpa, we are excited to introduce the Alma Hybrid Laser to our patients. This ablative laser provides a variety of treatments for many different skin concerns. It is ideal for achieving skin rejuvenation and scar treatment for an improved complexion.

The Alma Hybrid laser is the first and only device of its kind to combine two powerful energies to address a variety of skin issues. These energies include optimal ablation for resurfacing, ultimate deep thermal effect for new collagen restoration, and the effective trans-epidermal delivery of skin essentials. It also boasts reduced downtime, so you can get back to your regular activities sooner!

In addition, this laser is equipped with smart software, which allows your doctor to fully customize your treatment by taking into account your skin type, the area being treated, and other parameters.

“This laser treats fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, and offers overall facial rejuvenation. To discover whether this treatment is right for you, contact us today!”

Effective, Safe Skin Resurfacing

The Alma Hybrid combines CO2 laser and non-ablative 1570nm laser technologies to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring. This makes it increasingly effective in resurfacing the skin while remaining safe for most skin types.

For the first time, Alma Hybrid® introduces two must-have laser wavelengths (10,600 (CO2) laser and 1570 nm laser) in one sophisticated platform. While each laser operates at the highest standards independently, Alma Hybrid® pioneers a breakthrough – combining both laser wavelengths which produces a new clinical phenomenon unseen with any other laser device.

Common Q&A

Plastic surgeons and dermatologists commonly employ Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers for a skin resurfacing procedures. These laser devices emit a focused beam of light at specific wavelengths to heat up and create a controlled burning of the superficial layers of the skin. By vaporizing water molecules, this leads to collagen production and increases skin elasticity.

CO2 lasers are used to treat and help improve the appearance of wrinkles as well as scars from acne, trauma, chickenpox and/or infections. They are also commonly used to treat superficial non-malignant skin lesions and pigmentation irregularities caused by sun damage, actinic keratosis, and liver spots.

Over the year, lasers for use in medical procedures have evolved significantly and become much safer and more effective. Hybrid CO2 lasers are among the most technologically advanced, allowing surgeons to adjust the amount of energy and the duration of the exposure to suit individual patient skin types and conditions. Whereas older CO2 lasers were indicated only for very fair skin, the Alma Hybrid CO2 laser is equally effective for darker skin types.
The reason the Alma CO2 laser is called a “hybrid” is due to the fact that it utilizes two distinct lasers that are administered simultaneously: a CO2 laser with a 10600nm wavelength and a non-ablative laser with a 1570nm wavelength. This combination allows great flexibility so that skin resurfacing treatments can be customized to individual patient needs. The CO2 laser targets water molecules on the superficial layer of skin while the non-ablative laser targets deeper tissues to stimulate collagen production. This hybrid technology helps achieve the best results with the least amount of downtime.
CO2 lasers can be used for either ablative or fractional treatments. The ablative mode resurfaces the entire area and allows the healing to start from deeper tissues. This technique is aggressive but can result in more dramatic outcomes in appropriate patients.

By contrast, the fractional CO2 laser delivers higher volume, thinner “microbeams” to the skin, leaving part of the surrounding skin intact. This allows surgeons to treat darker skin types that cannot normally be treated with an ablative laser and leads to faster healing and recovery.

By combining CO2 with non-ablative laser technology, the Alma Hybrid laser allows us to target and treat many different types of skin conditions safely and effectively. Most commonly, the hybrid laser is used to eliminate wrinkles and pigmentation irregularities caused by age and sun damage. However, it can be also be used to treat a variety of conditions, including scarring from acne or chickenpox; stretch marks; melasma; scars from accidents, burns, and surgeries; liver spots, and benign skin lesions like actinic or seborrheic keratosis.
During your consultation, we will assess your both your skin type and skin condition before recommending the proper treatment option. Normally, 4 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, are required for optimal skin resurfacing and/or rejuvenation.
The amount of recovery time after a CO2 hybrid laser treatment varies, based on the skin condition being treated, the area being treated, and of course the setting of the laser as administered by the surgeon. Recovery times typically range between 3 days and 2 weeks.

During your initial consultation, our surgeon will review your goals and preferences in order to create the final treatment plan. At this time, we will also set expectations for your recovery time along with other considerations.

Prior to your Hybrid CO2 laser treatment, we will place numbing ointment onto the skin in order to help reduce discomfort during the treatment. Most patients will experience mild levels of discomfort in the form of a light burning sensation for the duration of the treatment. For more aggressive treatments, medications designed to relax patients can be considered and in some cases, anesthetic agent can be administered.
Hybrid CO2 laser treatments are a very safe and effective way to rejuvenate the skin, eliminate wrinkles and pigmentations, and improves stretch marks and scars. Of course, as with any procedure, there are always risks of adverse reactions.

During your initial consultation, we will thoroughly discuss and evaluate your skin condition history in order to assess any possible risks from treatment and ensure that the CO2 laser is appropriate for you. For patients with a history of cold sores or herpes infections, prolonged skin redness, or hyper/hypo pigmentation, viral infections are a possible side effect. Most commonly, patients could experience peeling of the skin 3 to 5 days after the procedure. While permanent scarring is possible, it is extremely rare, particularly when CO2 laser treatments are administered by an experienced surgeon.

There are instances when your plastic surgeon could recommend using medical-grade skin products to prepare your face prior to receiving a CO2 laser treatment. This regimen would normally include retinol or tretinoin compounds combined with an application for pigment control. The main reason for this protocol would be to speed up the healing process but could also be used to reduce the risk of pigmentation or prolonged redness after the procedure. In some instances, your surgeon might recommend anti-viral medications or other antibiotics, depending on existing skin conditions and/or history.
It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure without protection and tanning beds for at least two weeks prior to receiving a CO2 skin resurfacing treatment. After your treatment, you should avoid sun exposure until the skin surface is healed, which normally lasts between 1 to 3 days. After healing, you can go outside but should still be careful to protect your skin with mineral-based sunscreens and by wearing hats.
