Facials Q&A

A Facial treatment is a comprehensive skincare treatment designed to cleanse, exfoliate, and nourish the skin, enhancing its overall clarity and hydration. The most effective Facials are tailored to meet individual skin needs and types, addressing specific concerns such as acne, dryness, aging, or sensitivity. This personalized approach helps to unclog pores, moisturize dry areas, and remove dead skin cells. Benefits of receiving a Facial include a more radiant complexion and relaxed facial muscles, which can lead to smoother, more youthful-looking skin. For maintaining optimal skin health, it is generally recommended to have Facials on a regular basis.

A Facial is a skincare treatment typically administered by licensed aestheticians, designed to cleanse, exfoliate, and nourish the skin, promoting an improved complexion and texture. The treatment involves a stepwise process that should be customized for each individual. The typical steps include:

  1. Cleansing: To remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin’s surface.
  2. Exfoliation: To slough away dead skin cells and reveal fresher skin.
  3. Steaming: To open up pores and soften the skin, making it more receptive to other treatments.
  4. Extractions: To clear clogged pores and remove blackheads.
  5. Massage: To stimulate circulation and relax the facial muscles.
  6. Masks: To address specific skin conditions with targeted treatments.
  7. Toning and Moisturizing: To hydrate the skin and restore its natural pH balance.

Each step is crucial in ensuring that the skin is thoroughly cared for, making Facials a vital part of a comprehensive skincare regimen.

A good Facial involves a meticulous process of massaging, cleansing, and applying various products in a sequential manner. However, the best Facial is one that is tailored specifically to an individual’s unique skin needs, as assessed by a skilled aesthetician. This customization ensures that each treatment effectively addresses specific concerns and enhances the overall health and appearance of the skin.
Performing a Facial is not a one-size-fits-all procedure like many surgical treatments; instead, it requires customization to each individual’s specific skin needs. The effectiveness of a Facial largely depends on the aesthetician’s experience and their ability to discern various skin issues. A perfect Facial starts with a thorough analysis of your skin, considers the skincare products you use at home, and takes into account your daily routines and diet. This comprehensive approach ensures that the Facial is perfectly suited to enhance your skin’s health and appearance.
An anti-aging Facial is a skincare treatment focused on reducing the signs of aging on the face. It typically includes steps like deep cleansing, exfoliation, and the use of products rich in antioxidants, peptides, exosomes, and vitamins that promote collagen production and skin renewal. These Facials may also involve specific techniques like Facial massages or the use of devices to improve skin firmness and elasticity. The goal is to make the skin appear more youthful, smooth, and radiant.
A brightening Facial is a skin treatment aimed at improving radiance and reducing signs of skin dullness. It typically involves deep cleansing, exfoliation, and the use of masks and serums enriched with ingredients like vitamin C, kojic acid, and glycolic acid. These ingredients help to fade pigmentation, even out skin tone, and enhance skin glow. Brightening Facials are popular for their ability to give the skin a more youthful and glowing appearance, making them suitable for those dealing with dark spots, sun damage, or uneven skin tones.
An acne Facial is a specialized type of Facial that follows the seven steps of a standard Facial—cleansing, exfoliation, steaming, and extraction—but with a particular focus on the thorough extraction of comedones and blackheads. Depending on the severity and activity of the acne, it may also include a mild peel. This targeted approach helps to clear out clogged pores and reduce the visibility of acne, making it an effective treatment option for those struggling with breakout-prone skin.
The frequency with which an individual benefits from acne Facials depends on the activity level of the acne and the skin’s thickness and oiliness. For those with very active acne and frequent comedone production, a Facial may be needed every two weeks. More commonly, however, Facials are performed on a monthly basis until the acne subsides. This tailored approach helps manage acne effectively by adapting to the specific needs of the skin and the progression of the condition.
A perfect Facial is meticulously customized to address an individual’s specific skincare needs and goals. For example, if someone is concerned about skin dullness and a lack of natural glow, peels can be safely incorporated into the Facial. Similarly, for those dealing with dark spots and sun-damaged skin, adding chemical peels can be an effective way to enhance the overall health and appearance of the skin. This tailored approach ensures that each Facial delivers the best possible results for the client’s unique skin concerns.
A common question is whether it’s possible to receive Botox on the same day as a Facial. Generally, it is safe to have a Facial followed by Botox injections on the same day. However, it is recommended to avoid Facials for at least 3 days after receiving Botox. This precaution is necessary because the manipulation of facial muscles during a Facial could cause the Botox to migrate, potentially leading to eyelid drooping or other unwanted side effects. It’s essential to allow the Botox to settle into the muscles properly to avoid these complications.

Chemical Peels Q&A

Chemical peels are a diverse group of treatments that use active agents to remove the superficial layers of the skin, addressing conditions like fine lines, wrinkles, or dark spots. These agents primarily include various types of acids, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, or acetic acid, and sometimes bases, like phenol. The main differences between these peels lie in their specific targets, the strength and pH of the compounds, and other chemical characteristics that influence their rate of action and the duration of their effects on the skin. Each type of peel is formulated to achieve specific results, making the choice of peel crucial depending on the individual skin issues being treated.
A TCA peel, or trichloroacetic acid peel, is a type of chemical peel that enhances skin appearance by removing the outer layers of skin. More potent than many other peels, it is especially effective for treating age-related skin issues such as deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, and uneven skin tone. Available in various concentrations, the depth of the peel’s action can be adjusted to meet the specific needs of the individual. Recovery time from a TCA peel varies, with deeper peels requiring more downtime to allow for proper healing and maximum effectiveness.
Depending on the type and strength of the peel administered by the aesthetician, you may experience some degree of skin sensitivity and a burning sensation, which will subside shortly after the chemical agent is neutralized or cleansed from your face. Deeper peels, typically administered by dermatologists or plastic surgeons, may require pain medication due to their intensity. However, most peels performed by aestheticians are very well tolerated and do not usually necessitate such measures. This variability highlights the importance of a tailored approach to chemical peels, ensuring each treatment is suited to the patient’s skin sensitivity and desired outcomes.
After a chemical peel, your provider or aesthetician will give you detailed instructions for aftercare based on the type and depth of the peel. It is crucial to avoid any skincare products containing active ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol, or hydroquinone for at least 7 days. During this time, keep your skin well-moisturized, and avoid picking at it as it peels.

Additionally, you should refrain from activities that warm up the skin for 24 hours following the treatment. This includes direct sun exposure, excessive sweating, using a sauna, or engaging in strenuous workouts. Following these guidelines helps ensure a smooth recovery and maximizes the effectiveness of the peel.

Certain types of chemical peels are safe to use during pregnancy or while nursing. Lactic acid and Mandelic acid peels, known for their gentleness on the skin and minimal absorption into the body, are considered safe options. However, it is crucial for pregnant women to consult with their dermatologist or plastic surgeon before undergoing any chemical peel treatments. This consultation ensures that any skincare procedure chosen is safe for both the mother and her baby.
Many clients hesitate to try chemical peels because they fear excessive flaking or shedding of skin, similar to ‘shedding like a snake.’ However, this concern is often exaggerated and not always accurate. The actual peeling process depends on the type and strength of the peel agent used. In many cases, especially with milder peels, you may not experience any visible flaking or peeling at all. It’s important to discuss your concerns and the specific peel options with your aesthetician to understand what results you can realistically expect.

Microneedling Q&A

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves creating multiple micro-holes in the skin using a device equipped with many fine needles. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s natural wound healing process, which in turn increases the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This procedure is highly effective in improving the texture and firmness of the skin, reducing the appearance of scars, minimizing pore size, and diminishing stretch marks.

Additionally, microneedling can be used to effectively deliver various substances such as growth factors, skin hydrators, and rejuvenating agents directly into the superficial layers of the skin, enhancing the overall rejuvenation process.

It is common to combine Facial treatments with microneedling to enhance skin tone and increase collagen production, resulting in tighter and firmer skin. Additionally, individuals with deep acne scars can significantly benefit from combining Facials with microneedling. This integrated approach not only improves the overall texture and appearance of the skin but also addresses specific concerns such as scarring, providing a comprehensive skin rejuvenation and skin tightening solution.
Yes, microneedling can be used to administer growth factors, and is often combined with such treatments to enhance the skin’s rejuvenation process. The tiny channels created by microneedling allow for deeper penetration of topical growth factors, peptides and exosomes which can improve the effectiveness of the treatment by stimulating cellular renewal, collagen production, and overall skin healing.
Meso Botox, or Micro Botox, represents a newer trend among aestheticians and medical spas, involving the administration of very small doses of Botox along with microneedling to the superficial layers of the skin, rather than using the traditional method of direct muscle injection. The primary aim of Meso Botox treatment is to reduce pore size and fine lines without affecting muscle activity. It is crucial that this procedure be performed by skilled and licensed professionals who are well-versed in both microneedling and Botox application to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
Microneedling is an innovative method for delivering various chemical agents and growth factors into the skin to enhance the effects of the treatment. The principle behind this technique is that microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin, which allow these agents to penetrate into deeper layers. Commonly, fillers such as Sculptra and certain hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers like SkinVive have been safely used in conjunction with microneedling to improve skin texture and firmness effectively.

Microneedling with Exceed™

Single Treatment: $295
Package (3): $800

Microneedling, also known as percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a non-surgical treatment that uses very fine, short, sterile needles to create tiny punctures in your skin, prompting a natural, collagen-stimulating healing process that corrects flaws and improves skin quality. This minimally invasive facial treatment is clinically proven to deliver an improvement over time for several different dermatologic conditions, including facial wrinkles and facial acne scars.

Dermaplaning &  Microdermabrasion Q&A

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that involves gently scraping away the top layer of dead skin cells and fine hair (peach fuzz) from the face using a specialized surgical blade. This exfoliation technique aims to smooth the skin’s surface, giving it a youthful and radiant appearance. Additionally, dermaplaning enhances the absorption of skincare products and improves the application of makeup, making it a popular choice for those seeking a flawless finish.
Anyone can be a candidate for dermaplaning, except those with active acne or facial infections. While dermaplaning is feasible for people with very thin skin, performing the procedure can be more challenging in such cases. This exfoliation method is generally safe and effective for most skin types, helping to smooth and refresh the skin’s appearance.
One common concern among many women is whether fine facial hair (peach fuzz) will grow back thicker after dermaplaning. The good news is that dermaplaning does not affect the speed or thickness of hair regrowth. The characteristics of facial hair are determined by genetic and hormonal factors and shaving the hair does not alter these traits. This means that dermaplaning is a safe method to remove facial hair and rejuvenate the skin without worrying about altering hair growth patterns.
Both dermaplaning and dermabrasion are mechanical exfoliation techniques used to remove the outer layer of dead skin. Dermabrasion is a more intensive procedure that involves using rotating instruments to sand down the skin’s surface, targeting deeper imperfections such as scars and deep wrinkles. In contrast, dermaplaning is less invasive and involves using a scalpel to gently scrape off the peach fuzz and top layer of dead skin. Unlike dermabrasion, dermaplaning is painless, requires no recovery time, and is primarily used for exfoliation and the removal of fine facial hair.

Hydrafacial Q&A

A HydraFacial is a skincare treatment that combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection simultaneously. This non-invasive procedure uses a device to deliver various serums tailored to specific skin needs, such as reducing wrinkles, enhancing hydration, clearing acne, and brightening skin tone. The treatment is known for its immediate results with no downtime, making it popular for improving skin appearance and texture.
Hydro-dermabrasion and HydraFacial are both popular skin treatments that focus on rejuvenation and hydration but use different methods. Hydro-dermabrasion combines the exfoliating effects of microdermabrasion with hydrating serums, using water and oxygen to exfoliate the skin. This method is particularly effective for deeper cleaning and smoothing the skin. HydraFacial, on the other hand, uses a patented device to cleanse, extract, and hydrate the skin, infusing serums tailored to specific skin issues. It’s known for being gentle and effective across a wide range of skin conditions.

Choosing between them often depends on your specific skin needs and sensitivity; HydraFacial is typically more gentle and suitable for a broader range of skin types, while hydro-dermabrasion might be preferred for more intensive exfoliation and deeper cleansing effects.
