Injectables

Safe, Effective Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau & Dermal Fillers

Injectables are among the most popular skincare procedures for people of all ages. They are designed to help relax facial muscles, reduce the signs of aging, and rejuvenate soft-tissue volume loss. The two most common types of injectables are neurotoxins (like Botox and Dysport) and dermal fillers (like Juvederm and Restalyne), each of which have unique uses.

  • Neurotoxins are essential injectable proteins that relax muscles to help soften lines and wrinkles, with the goal of promoting a more youthful appearance. Botox is also often used to relieve migraine headaches.

  • Dermal Fillers are naturally occurring substances that are injected beneath the top layer of the skin to increase volume and improve the appearance of facial features. Fillers are commonly on lips, wrinkles, and scars.

Botulinum toxins are a class of medications that target muscle cells, relaxing their contractions to smooth out facial expressions. The most common types of neuromodulators include Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, Daxxify®, and Xeomin®, all of which function similarly.

Facial expressions such as smiling, squinting, and frowning involve small muscles in the face. Over the years, repeated contractions of these muscles can lead to the formation of facial creases. Common areas for these creases to appear include the forehead, corners of the mouth, outside edges of the eyes, and around the lips—often referred to as furrowed brow, frown lines, crow’s feet, and bunny lines, respectively.

Neuromodulators, like Botox®, temporarily paralyze the muscles in these areas, alleviating the creases. If the creases have been present for a long time and have caused structural changes in the skin, these injections can significantly improve their appearance, though they may not completely eliminate them. In such cases, your provider might recommend using fillers in conjunction with neuromodulator treatments to address deeper lines effectively. Okay

Botox and Dysport are widely recognized for their beneficial effects on facial rejuvenation. Commonly, individuals troubled by wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead, around the eyes, or lips, or those with abnormal facial expressions, seek these treatments at med spas and plastic surgeons’ offices. Increasingly, younger people are also opting for these products to prevent aging effects and maintain a fresher facial appearance.

Additionally, Botox can produce a brow lift effect, which opens up the eyes and gives a less tired appearance with wider, more alert eyes. It can also address prominent neck bands caused by hyperactive neck muscles.

Beyond aesthetic uses, botulinum toxins are also employed medically to treat migraine headaches, nighttime teeth grinding (bruxism), and to achieve facial harmonization in cases of thick jaw muscles.

Neuromodulators offer a minimally invasive option for facial rejuvenation by weakening the muscles responsible for facial expressions, thus preventing or reducing facial creases. However, for optimal aesthetic results, they are often best used in combination with other procedures.
Neuromodulators do not address loss of volume in areas like the cheeks, lips, or temples, nor do they improve sagging skin. Fillers, on the other hand, are effective for restoring volume and addressing deep wrinkles. The market offers a variety of fillers, each with different properties and durations, ranging from a few months to several years.

Combining neuromodulators, fillers, and energy based skin rejuvenation technologies, such as laser treatments, creates a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation, leveraging the strengths of each method to achieve the best results.

Botox and Dysport can significantly improve the appearance of deep wrinkles. However, if a wrinkle is visible even without facial expressions, the toxin alone may not fully resolve the issue. In such cases, combining Botox or Dysport with fillers or laser treatments like CO2 laser or Opus Plasma may provide better results. This integrated approach can effectively address deeper and more permanent wrinkles by relaxing the muscles and replenishing volume or resurfacing the skin, thereby enhancing overall facial rejuvenation.
The effects of botulinum toxins, including Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Daxxify, typically last between 3 to 6 months. The duration of their effectiveness can vary based on several factors, such as the specific area treated, the dosage of toxin injected, and the individual’s muscle strength. Additionally, people with faster metabolisms may process the toxin more quickly, resulting in a shorter duration of action.
Typically, your aesthetician or cosmetic surgeon will provide detailed instructions to follow after receiving Botox or Dysport injections. Generally, it is advised that patients avoid bending down or lifting heavy objects for a few hours post-injection to minimize the risk of bruising. Similarly, it is recommended to avoid strenuous activities such as going to the gym on the day of the injection; however, you may resume your exercise routines the following day.

Additionally, you should avoid facials or any form of facial massages during the first three days after receiving Botox injections to ensure the best possible results and to prevent any unwanted movement of the product.

Daxxify is a new botulinum toxin product that, like other neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport, helps to improve wrinkles and fine lines caused by facial expression muscles. What sets Daxxify apart is its peptide-based formulation, which is designed to offer a longer-lasting effect than traditional botulinum toxins. It is claimed to last between 6 to 9 months. The injection method is similar to that of its predecessors, maintaining a familiar procedure for those accustomed to botulinum toxin treatments.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) fillers are the most commonly used types of fillers in aesthetic medicine today. Popular brands include Juvederm, Restylane, and Belotero. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the human body, where it fills spaces between cells. Laboratory-synthesized HA derivatives are used to replace volume loss in the face and other parts of the body. The key distinction among various commercially available HA filler products is the method by which the HA molecules are cross-linked to create larger, more stable molecules.

Because HA is a naturally occurring substance, the body generally does not react adversely to these products. They have been proven safe for injecting into the face and other body parts, where they effectively lift and volumize tissues.

There are various forms of fillers available on the market, each with unique characteristics and mechanisms of action. Some fillers primarily add volume to the treated area, which is typically a temporary effect. Others offer more lasting results by inducing tissue reactions and promoting the formation of new connective tissue.

Fat grafting, also considered a type of filler, is distinct in that it utilizes fat from your own body, providing effects that are both more permanent and natural-looking.

If you are looking to volumize your face and counteract the effects of aging, it is advisable to consult with your aesthetician or plastic surgeon. They can help you choose the appropriate products and procedures to meet your aesthetic goals effectively.

Lip fillers have become increasingly popular among both men and women seeking to enhance the appearance of their lips and overall facial aesthetics. These treatments are favored across all age groups, with most clients opting for a natural yet slightly fuller lip look.

Depending on an individual’s preferences, hyaluronic acid products are most commonly used for lip enhancement. Restylane Kysse and Juvederm Ultra are the most popular options for those looking to significantly enhance their lips. However, for those who desire only slight hydration and subtle volumization, products like Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Silk are recommended. These choices allow for tailored treatments that align with various aesthetic goals.

Traditionally, fillers have been used to add volume to the face and counteract the effects of aging by enhancing areas that tend to lose volume over time. Biostimulatory fillers, however, work differently by stimulating the body to produce more collagen, which helps tighten the skin and provide a lifting effect. Sculptra and Radiesse are widely used for this purpose.

Unlike traditional fillers, which offer immediate results, biostimulatory fillers do not show instant changes. Instead, it typically takes about 4-6 weeks for the body to generate collagen, after which the beneficial effects of skin tightening and facial lifting become apparent. This delayed effect is due to the gradual process of collagen integration and tissue remodeling triggered by these fillers.

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that rejuvenates and tightens the face using a multi-modality approach without the need for surgery. In this technique, a cosmetic surgeon uses a combination of injectables, primarily dermal fillers and botulinum toxin products, to lift and enhance the facial features.

Sculptra is the filler most commonly utilized in liquid facelifts due to its ability to stimulate the body’s production of endogenous collagen. When strategically placed in the correct facial layer, Sculptra effectively counters the effects of skin sagging and tissue loosening that occur with aging.

Typically, Sculptra is administered in at least two sessions to maximize its effects, with the treatments spaced approximately six weeks apart. This schedule allows for gradual collagen buildup and natural-looking, lasting results.

Radiofrequency microneedling utilizes RF energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin, aiding in skin tightening. However, during this process, there is a possibility that some of the dermal fillers within the treatment area may be dissolved. To avoid this, it is generally recommended to schedule any filler procedures after completing the RF microneedling treatments. This sequencing ensures the effectiveness of both treatments and maintains the integrity of the filler results.
SkinVive is a new hyaluronic acid (HA) filler introduced by Juvederm, designed primarily to enhance skin hydration and radiance. Developed using innovative microdroplet technology, SkinVive is formulated to be injected into the superficial layers of the skin, promoting water retention and aiding in hydration. It is specifically indicated for achieving lasting facial skin smoothness and a glowing complexion.
Fat grafting is a unique type of filler that utilizes your own body’s fat, in contrast to the synthetic materials commonly used in other fillers. The effects of fat grafting are more permanent and tend to look more natural.

However, a significant drawback of fat grafting is its irreversibility. Synthetic fillers, on the other hand, are temporary, with effects fading after a few months. If you are dissatisfied with the results of synthetic fillers or if they don’t meet your expectations, the effects can naturally dissipate over time, or there are treatments available to reverse the effects sooner. In contrast, the more permanent nature of fat grafting means adjustments or reversals are not as straightforward.

Kybella® is an injectable treatment designed to dissolve unwanted fat in localized areas, such as under the chin. The active ingredient in Kybella® is a molecule naturally found in the body that aids in the digestion of fat. When injected into areas with excess fat deposits, Kybella® breaks down the fat cells, which are then gradually eliminated by the body through the kidneys.

Kybella® has been effectively used to reduce excess fat under the chin, on the inner thighs, and in other targeted areas. It is particularly suitable for individuals with good skin elasticity, as it relies on the skin to contract after the underlying fat is dissolved.

Kybella® treatment will remove excess localized fat by dissolving the fat molecules. There is significant bruising and swelling in the injected area for a couple of weeks. After healing, the results are expected to last for a long time as long as your weight is stable.

Depending on the amount of excess fat to be treated, it is common for candidates to undergo two to three injections to achieve the desired effects.

Kybella® injections and liposuction both target areas of localized fatty deposits, but they differ significantly in their approaches and outcomes.

Kybella® is a non-surgical technique that uses injections to dissolve excess, unwanted fat in specific parts of the body. The recovery period typically lasts about two weeks, and most patients require two to three sessions to achieve their desired results.

Liposuction, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure that physically removes unwanted fat through suction. The initial downtime for liposuction is usually five to seven days, although some swelling may persist longer. A key advantage of liposuction is its ability to treat larger areas of the body in a single session, which can often lead to minimized overall downtime and cost compared to multiple sessions of non-surgical alternatives.

Facial harmonization, also known as facial contouring or facial balancing, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to create a more balanced and symmetrical appearance to the face through a combination of non-surgical treatments. This approach often involves the strategic use of dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections, fat grafting, and sometimes surgical procedures to enhance the natural features and proportions of the face.

Facial harmonization is tailored to the individual’s unique facial structure and aesthetic goals, making each treatment plan highly personalized. It’s increasingly popular among those looking for comprehensive facial enhancement without undergoing invasive surgery.

A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure aimed at lifting and enhancing the contours of the face or breasts. This technique involves inserting temporary, medical-grade suture material into the skin, which is then tightened to achieve the desired lift and rejuvenation. Many of these thread products also stimulate collagen production in the tissue, enhancing the skin’s firmness and youthful appearance. Typically performed by a cosmetic surgeon as a bedside procedure, thread lifts require minimal downtime.

This type of lift offers more subtle results compared to traditional surgical lifts and is best suited for individuals experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity. It provides an effective solution for those seeking noticeable improvements without the extensive recovery associated with more invasive surgeries.
